3 | The article is devoted to the questions of the formation of foreign-language lexical competence of medical students, the main concepts relating to the lexical aspect of foreign language training are interpreted, levels of the formation of lexical competence as necessary stages of its gradual development are shown. The author pays attention to lexical skills in a framework of interdisciplinary connections characterizing their features and conditions of its development, the advantage of lexical competence formation on an interdisciplinary basis is pointed out while taking into consideration the linguistic features of the language material and also applying the results of students’ educational activity. 4 | The article proves the necessity of the application of interdisciplinary connections to improve the process of teaching foreign languages at non-linguistic medical school. It is caused by general scientific and cognitive preconditions which in total form the theoretical basis for the application of interdisciplinary connections during educational process. The author pays attention to the multilateral interconnections of a foreign language with some professional disciplines (between language disciplines, namely English and Latin, and not language ones, English and Anatomy and Physiology) being taught in the first year of the Medical University and considers them to create some necessary conditions for the effective studying and applying a foreign language in practice. 5 | The author offers an interpretation of the term “interdisciplinary connections” from the methodic and didactic points of view taking into consideration the psychological factor, gives different definitions of interdisciplinary connections to show the variability of their interpretation by many scientists. Much attention is paid to the functions of the interdisciplinary connections while teaching a foreign language and their influence on the main functions of teaching; the meaning of the specific function of the interdisciplinary connections is pointed out. The article provides the psychological analysis of interdisciplinary connections as an important factor in the process of reception, activization and learning the given material. 6 | The author shows the stages of formation of foreign language professional lexical competence based on the use of previous and current interdisciplinary connections, characterizes the skills of each stage in the process of formation of the professional lexical competence, gives an example of the developed plan for systematic interaction between students and teacher emphasizing the impact of the plan on the stage formation of students’ oral speech. The article touches the psychophysiological basis of lexical skills which is the automated dynamic links as unity of semantic and auditoryspeech-motor images of certain lexical items in the process of their application in speech activities. The formation of this kind of links determines automated processes of vocabulary application in a coherent speech context causing the effective formation of foreign language professional lexical competence. The described stages involve the use of interdisciplinary connections at the stage of formation of language lexical skills as an initial component of lexical competence, at the stage of formation of lexical skills of reproductive-productive oral speech as the progressive constituent of professional lexical competence and at the stage of spontaneous speech as the stage of application of productive lexical skills that determine the formation of professional lexical competence.
